An incumbent KMT mayor of Taipei with no serious challenger and a 30-point polling lead is about as safe as Taiwanese politics gets.
- Chiang won in 2022 with 57.6% against a divided pan-green field, and no credible KMT primary challenger has emerged for 2026.
- The DPP has not fielded a heavyweight; Taipei's pan-blue structural advantage (roughly 55-45 in recent citywide races) makes a flip require a national wave.
- The one thing that would move this: a major corruption indictment or a KMT split candidacy before the November 28 vote, neither of which is currently visible.

Incumbent Taipei mayors have won re-election every cycle since direct elections began; Chiang faces no known crisis.
- Every directly elected Taipei mayor (Ma, Hau, Ko) won a second term; incumbency advantage in this city is near-decisive.
- Chiang's approval has hovered in the mid-to-high 50s through 2025–26, and the DPP has not fielded a candidate polling above ~30%.
- A sudden scandal or cross-blue defection in the final month would be the main threat, but with 31 days left that window is very narrow.

Incumbent Taipei mayors running for re-election almost always win, aided by Taipei's structurally pan-blue voting base.
- Three of the last four Taipei mayors secured second terms, and Chiang maintains solid approval ratings with no major corruption stains.
- TPP vote share has collapsed following Ko Wen-je's legal troubles, leaving the anti-Chiang vote fragmented and unable to cross 45%.
- Only a unified DPP-TPP coalition candidate or an unforeseen municipal catastrophe before November 2026 could derail his re-election.

The race turns on whether a unified opposition can field a credible challenger against an incumbent in Taipei’s blue-leaning electorate.
- Chiang must secure KMT renomination and then win on November 28; no runoff means opposition vote-splitting is decisive.
- Taipei has usually favored KMT-aligned mayors, and incumbency plus Chiang’s 2022 win give him a meaningful starting edge.
- A DPP–TPP coordination deal or a major late polling collapse for Chiang would materially lower these odds.

Hinges on whether KMT unity and Chiang's incumbency edge hold against a unified DPP/opposition challenge.
- Incumbent mayors in Taipei have historically strong reelection odds, and Chiang has maintained moderate approval ratings through his first term.
- DPP has struggled to find a strong, unifying challenger in Taipei, though scandals or a strong single opposition candidate could shift the race.
- Election is just one month away with campaigning well underway, limiting time for major shifts in dynamics before Nov 28, 2026.

Incumbent plurality win holds if DPP/TPP stay split one month out.
- Chiang must simply outpoll the field on 28 Nov; no runoff exists and 2022 already showed 42% suffices when opposition fragments.
- Taipei incumbents re-elect at mixed rates (Ko twice, Ma once) but KMT holds the machine and no scandal has surfaced by late Oct.
- A late DPP-TPP joint ticket or a 5-point polling collapse would flip it; neither is priced in yet.
