It turns on whether Democrats can overcome Florida’s recent Republican lean in a low-error, turnout-driven contest.
- Florida voted Republican by 13 points for governor in 2022 and by roughly 13 points for president in 2024, a steep baseline deficit.
- The Democratic nominee must win independents and lift Miami-Dade, Black, and younger turnout by November 3 while holding GOP margins down.
- Late credible polling showing a Democratic lead or a major Republican scandal would materially raise the chance.

Florida's massive structural shift toward the GOP leaves Democrats reliant on a national wave and low-propensity turnout surge.
- Florida Republicans hold an active voter registration lead of nearly 1 million voters, up from parity just six years ago.
- Ron DeSantis won reelection by 19.4 points in 2022, signaling that the state has transitioned from tossup to solid red.
- A midterm environment under a potential second-term Republican president or severe GOP candidate quality issues are required to flip it.

Florida has trended strongly Republican since 2018; Democrats need a major upset to retake the governorship.
- Florida has elected Republican governors since 1999 and shifted sharply red in 2020-2024 statewide races.
- DeSantis-era GOP dominance, voter registration gains for Republicans, and weak recent Democratic statewide performance all work against Democrats.
- A Democratic win would require a historic realignment or major GOP stumble, which hasn't materialized in polling or fundraising trends by late October 2026.

Florida’s R lean and 2022 +19 GOP blowout make a Dem win a long-shot three days out.
- GOP has held the governorship continuously since 1999; no Dem has won a statewide FL race since 2018.
- Late October polling typically shows the GOP nominee ahead by high-single to low-double digits.
- Only an unforced GOP error or turnout collapse in the final 72 hours would invert the base rate.

Florida has not elected a Democratic governor since 1994, and 2026 is a GOP-leaning midterm in a state Trump won twice.
- Democrats last won the Florida governorship in 1994 (Lawton Chiles); the GOP has held it for 28 straight years, a strong base rate against a flip.
- Florida has trended red — Trump won it in 2016, 2020, and 2024 — and midterm turnout patterns favor the party out of power only marginally in a state this polarized.
- The Democratic nominee would need to overcome GOP registration gains and heavy Republican spending; only a major GOP scandal or national blue wave would move this above…

Florida's R+10 structural lean makes a Democratic gubernatorial win nearly impossible even in a wave midterm.
- Florida hasn't elected a Democrat governor since 2014 (Scott vs. Crist was an independent), and DeSantis won by 19 in 2022.
- Even in strong Democratic midterms (2018), the GOP held Florida's governorship; the state's partisan registration edge has only widened since.
- A Democrat would need a ~12-point swing from 2022 baseline, which no credible poll has shown approaching in this race.

Resolution criteria
This market will resolve according to the winner of the 2026 Florida gubernatorial election. A candidate shall be considered to represent a party in the event that he or she is the nominee of the party in question. Candidates other than the Democratic or Republican nominee (e.g., Greens, Libertarian, independent) may be added at a later date. Candidates who run as independents will not be encompassed by the “Democrat” or “Republican” options regardless of any affiliation they may have with the party. The candidates may be named in the contract for the convenience of traders. In the event that any named candidate is replaced as the nominee of their respective party prior to election day, the name in the contract will be updated and the market will resolve based on the replacement nominee of the party. The resolution source for this market is the Associated Press, Fox News, and NBC. This market will resolve once all three sources call the race for the same candidate. If all three sources haven’t called the race in this state for the same candidate, this market will resolve based on the official certification.
