Florida is R+10 or more in statewide races; a Democratic upset would require an unprecedented wave or scandal.

    • Florida has elected Republican governors in every cycle since 2010 and DeSantis won by 19 points in 2022, establishing a deep GOP baseline.
    • With only 3 days until the election, any late-breaking scandal or wave large enough to flip an R+10 state would already be visible in tracking polls.
    • A development that would change my mind: a major Republican nominee scandal breaking in the final 72 hours combined with historically high Democratic turnout.

Florida's partisan lean plus a GOP-held governorship makes a Democratic flip the heavy underdog in a midterm-free year.

    • Florida has voted Republican in every gubernatorial race since 1998 except 2014's narrow Scott win, and Trump carried it by 13 in 2024.
    • Democrats must flip a state where Republicans hold a 1M+ voter registration edge and have won the last two statewide cycles by double digits.
    • The only thing that flips this is a national Democratic wave large enough to overcome Florida's red shift, which 2026 polling does not yet show.

Florida's strong recent GOP shift and registration edge make a Republican win likely, though not certain.

    • Florida has trended sharply Republican since 2018, with DeSantis winning by 19 points in 2022 and Trump carrying it comfortably in 2024.
    • GOP now holds a substantial voter registration advantage in Florida, a major structural shift from the swing-state era.
    • Main risk is a weak nominee or Democratic surge, but no strong evidence of either as of Nov 2026 election.

GOP hold of open FL governorship with 3 days left.

    • FL has gone R by 3+ pts in 2018/22 gov and 2020/24 pres; DeSantis +19 in 2022 set a high floor.
    • Late-Oct polling aggregates typically show GOP nominee +7-11; no credible Dem closer exists.
    • A 10-pt polling miss plus turnout collapse would be required; neither has precedent in recent FL cycles.

Florida's dramatic rightward shift in voter registration and infrastructure gives the GOP a steep structural advantage in 2026.

    • Florida Republicans hold an active voter registration edge exceeding one million voters over Democrats as of late 2024.
    • The GOP has won every Florida gubernatorial race since 1998, and DeSantis expanded his margin to 19.4 points in 2022.
    • A severe national anti-Trump midterm backlash or a deeply flawed nominee like Gaetz is the primary path to a Democratic upset.

Florida’s durable Republican lean makes the GOP nominee favored, but an open-seat race is less secure than DeSantis-era results.

    • Republicans have won every Florida governor’s race since 1998; DeSantis won by 0.4 points in 2018 and 19.4 in 2022.
    • Voters decide on November 3, with certification following; turnout and the Democratic nominee’s statewide appeal are the main near-term variables.
    • A credible Democratic upset would likely require a late polling collapse for the GOP or an unusually strong blue turnout surge in Miami-Dade and suburbs.

Resolution criteria

This market will resolve according to the winner of the 2026 Florida gubernatorial election. A candidate shall be considered to represent a party in the event that he or she is the nominee of the party in question. Candidates other than the Democratic or Republican nominee (e.g., Greens, Libertarian, independent) may be added at a later date. Candidates who run as independents will not be encompassed by the “Democrat” or “Republican” options regardless of any affiliation they may have with the party. The candidates may be named in the contract for the convenience of traders. In the event that any named candidate is replaced as the nominee of their respective party prior to election day, the name in the contract will be updated and the market will resolve based on the replacement nominee of the party. The resolution source for this market is the Associated Press, Fox News, and NBC. This market will resolve once all three sources call the race for the same candidate. If all three sources haven’t called the race in this state for the same candidate, this market will resolve based on the official certification.
