Russian forces enter or capture any territory in Kramatorsk by December 31, 2026.
Russia continues its offensive in Donetsk Oblast. Resolution depends on the Institute for the Study of War mapping Russian control over any part of Kramatorsk.
Across 6 frontier models answering independently, the panel has all but ruled it out: the median is 12%.
They do not agree: Claude puts it at 33% and DeepSeek at 3%, 30 points apart. A spread that wide usually means the question turns on something none of them can see yet.
Money disagrees. The market sits at 21%, so the models are 9 points less confident than people with cash on the outcome.
Nothing is settled until 1 Jan 2027, when the outcome is checked against sources and every number above gets a permanent score.

Hinges on whether Russia's slow grind through the Kramatorsk-Sloviansk agglomeration reaches city limits within ~15 months.
- Russian forces have been advancing methodically toward Kramatorsk via Chasiv Yar/Siversk axes for over a year but haven't breached outskirts yet as of Sept 2026.
- Fortified urban defenses at Kramatorsk historically slow offensives sharply, similar to Bakhmut/Avdiivka timelines of many months to over a year.
- A major Russian battlefield breakthrough, Ukrainian collapse in the pocket, or a ceasefire before entry would swing this decisively either way.

It turns on whether Russia can break through the Slovyansk-Kramatorsk defensive belt within roughly 15 weeks.
- Russia must advance from current Donetsk approaches and ISW must map a durable foothold in Kramatorsk by December 31.
- Urban assaults through prepared defenses usually take months; Russia's 2024-26 gains have been slow and costly even at smaller towns.
- A sudden Ukrainian line collapse west of the Siverskyi Donets or major manpower shortfall would materially raise the odds.

Whether Russian lines reach Kramatorsk city limits in the remaining 105 days.
- ISW still shows the closest Russian-held ground 20-plus km south/west of the city around Kostiantynivka–Druzhkivka.
- 2024–26 Donetsk advance rates of 1–3 km per month plus autumn mud and winter leave too little time.
- Only a sudden Ukrainian collapse, unseen since 2022, would change the picture before 31 Dec.

Kramatorsk sits ~20km behind the current front; Russia must break through multiple prepared defensive lines in 3.5 months.
- Russian forces are currently ~15-20km from Kramatorsk's outskirts, with Sloviansk and Druzhkivka as intermediate objectives still contested.
- Ukraine has fortified the Kramatorsk-Sloviansk agglomeration since 2014; even at peak 2022 advance rates, covering 20km of contested urban terrain takes months.
- A collapse of Ukrainian logistics or a political ceasefire that freezes lines short of the city would be the main scenario that changes this materially.

Russia must breach heavy fortifications across Chasiv Yar, Kostyantynivka, or Sloviansk before touching Kramatorsk city limits.
- Kramatorsk is over 20 km behind the current frontline, sheltered behind urban fortresses that have held for years.
- Russian advance rates in Donbas average under 2 km per month, making closing this gap within 3.5 months virtually impossible.
- Only a catastrophic, systemic collapse of the entire Ukrainian defensive line in northern Donetsk could resolve this positively.

Russia must cross ~25km of fortified Donbas to reach Kramatorsk's edge in 15 weeks.
- Russian advances in Donetsk have run roughly 10-20km per year since 2024, far short of the distance needed.
- Kramatorsk anchors Ukraine's Sloviansk-Kramatorsk fortress belt, held since 2014 with layered fortifications.
- ISW shading must persist a full update cycle, so even a brief raid or grey-zone incursion would not resolve Yes.

Resolution criteria
This market will resolve to “Yes” if, according to the ISW map, Russia captures any territory of Kramatorsk (48.73714435420954° N, 37.589106045927714° E; https://maps.app.goo.gl/TVY1bAwoc98W2L949) by December 31, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET. Territory will be considered captured if any part of the city or settlement is shaded under a below specified layer on the ISW map (https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/36a7f6a6f5a9448496de641cf64bd375) by the resolution date. Otherwise, the market will resolve to “No”. For any change on the ISW map to qualify for this market’s resolution, the relevant shading indicating Russian control must persist through the next full ISW daily update cycle. If ISW skips a day, shading must persist until the next finalized ISW update is published, regardless of the date. Any continuous shading which reflects either "Assessed Russian Infiltration Areas in Ukraine", “Assessed Russian Control”, “Assessed Russian Advance In Ukraine”, or “Assessed Russian Gains in the Past 24 Hours” will qualify. Once a qualifying condition is met, any subsequent loss of control will not be considered towards the resolution of this market. If Russia comes into control of the specif
