Michigan's Democratic Senate nominee is a heavy favorite in a state Trump won by only 1.4 points in 2024.

    • Michigan has elected Democratic senators in every cycle since 2000 except 2018's Stabenow win — actually Stabenow won 2018, Peters 2020, Slotkin 2024, so the streak is…
    • Slotkin's 2024 win over Rogers by ~0.3 points shows the state is close but Democrats have a durable Senate-level edge in midterm turnout.
    • The main risk is a national GOP wave or a scandal-driven collapse; absent that, the nominee should clear 50% by November 3.

Michigan's D+2 lean plus the incumbent's seat being open makes this a toss-up tilted slightly blue by state partisanship.

    • Michigan voted for Harris by ~3 points in 2024; the state's partisan lean gives Democrats a structural edge in a midterm where the president's party typically loses…
    • The Democratic candidate is likely Elissa Slotkin, who won her House seat in a swing district twice and has strong fundraising; the Republican side has been less…
    • A development that would shift this materially: a major polling error showing the race tied or leaning R in late October, or a third-party candidate drawing enough votes…

This hinges on whether the Democratic nominee can hold Detroit-area turnout while avoiding a national midterm backlash.

    • Michigan has been closely divided, but Democrats won its 2022 governor and Senate races and held the open Senate seat in 2024.
    • With Election Day only 25 days away, nominee quality, polling, fundraising, and any October surprise matter more than fundamentals.
    • A sustained Republican polling lead in suburban Detroit or a clear national GOP wave would materially lower the outlook.

Open seat race in a swing state with midterm dynamics likely favoring Democrats nationally.

    • Michigan is a genuine swing state but has trended slightly blue in federal races recently (Biden 2020, Whitmer 2022).
    • Midterms under a Republican president typically favor the opposition party, boosting Democratic turnout and odds.
    • Open-seat races are volatile; final polling and candidate quality in the weeks before Nov 2026 would most change this estimate.

Peters' incumbency in a slight-D state with midterm turnout still favors Democrats three weeks out.

    • Gary Peters must hold his 2020 coalition through Nov 4; GOP nominee needs a 4-pt swing that late polls have not shown.
    • Base rate: incumbent senators in MI/PA/WI win ~70% in midterms; this race sits below that due to 2024 Harris underperformance.
    • A late GOP surge in Detroit suburbs or a third-party spoiler would flip the call.

Incumbent midterm dynamics favor the out-party in a swing state, but Michigan's strong Democratic statewide bench offsets national drag.

    • Gary Peters holds the seat and midterms typically penalize the sitting president's party, giving Democrats a structural midterm headwind.
    • Michigan Democrats have won 4 of the last 5 Senate races and maintain a potent statewide turnout operation in Wayne and Oakland counties.
    • A weak or poorly funded Republican challenger would push this to 65, while an economic downturn could flip it below 45.

Resolution criteria

This market will resolve according to the winner of the 2026 midterm Michigan U.S. Senate election, inclusive of any run-offs. A candidate shall be considered to represent a party in the event that he or she is the nominee of the party in question. Candidates other than the Democratic or Republican nominee (e.g., Greens, Libertarian, independent) may be added at a later date. Candidates who run as independents will not be encompassed by the “Democrat” or “Republican” options regardless of any affiliation they may have with the party. The candidates may be named in the contract for the convenience of traders. In the event that any named candidate is replaced as the nominee of their respective party prior to election day, the name in the contract will be updated and the market will resolve based on the replacement nominee of the party. The resolution source for this market is the Associated Press, Fox News, and NBC. This market will resolve once all three sources call the race for the same candidate. If all three sources haven’t called the race in this state for the same candidate, this market will resolve based on the official certification.
